Permax® 805 Vinylidene Chloride Emulsion Provides APE-Free, Corrosion-Resistant Solutions for Metal Substrates

The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE: LZ) introduces Permax® 805 vinylidene chloride emulsion — an APE-free, low VOC, small particle size vinylidene chloride acrylate copolymer emulsion that exhibits extremely low moisture vapor permeability and excellent oxygen barrier properties.

Permax 805 emulsion is recommended for a variety of coatings in OEM and industrial metal applications — such as maintenance primers, underhood and underbody coatings, rust converting products and barrier coatings.  Recommended at a film thickness of 3-4 mils (75-100μ) dry, coatings based on this emulsion provide both superior corrosion and humidity resistance. It also adheres well to a variety of metal substrates.

In addition, Permax 805 emulsion has a low VOC capability of less than 50 grams per liter.  When combined with its APE-free properties, it is a solid choice for helping to meet today’s stringent environmental requirements.

“Permax 805 is an excellent choice for primers that will be top-coated. Other end uses where films remain unexposed to direct sunlight can also benefit from these features,” explains Dave Boothe, applications chemist for Lubrizol Performance Coatings.  “The polymer combines excellent oxygen barrier properties with very low moisture vapor transmission for superior corrosion resistance and adhesion to most metallic surfaces.”

Permax 805 emulsion also exhibits improved stability for a shelf-life up to 12 months, which is longer than traditional vinylidene chloride containing polymers.
