A Review of the CIS Soda Ash MarketIn Russia, soda ash is produced by two chemical companies and two non-ferrous metallurgy players. The last few years have been marked by a relative sustainability. In 2007, the total production of soda ash made up 2.94m tonnes, showing a 4.4% year-over-year increase.As for Ukraine, the situation there is much alike. Presently, there are two operational soda ash plants in the country – Crimean Soda Plant JSC and Lysychansk Soda JSC. The first company accounted for nearly 80% of last year’s overall domestic output. In the previous year, the capacity of the Ukrainian soda ash market was estimated at 447,000 tonnes.Qo’ng’irot Soda Zavodi (Qo’ng’irot Soda Plant), launched in August 2006, is regarded as the youngest player in the CIS soda ash market.
