The State of the CIS Polybutylene Terephtalate Market

     Polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) is a crystalline, high molecular weight polymer that has an excellent balance of properties and processing characteristics. It finds application in the auto industry, electronics, and electrical engineering. PBT enjoys the highest demand in the auto industry, being processed into electronic components for air conditioning systems, controllers, anti-lock braking systems, electronic stability control systems, electronic window lifters, seat adjustment systems, and electric motor parts. The product is also widely used in the manufacturing of auto bars, dashboards, decorative hubcaps, parts for doors and windows, etc. In 2005, PBT held about a 6% share of the Russian engineering thermoplastic market. The market is driven up exclusively by imports. As a whole, the dynamics of the PBT imports into Russia are perceived as positive, though 2005 faced a significant decrease.
