Sulphur and Sulfuric Acid 2007On 17 December, the conference entitled Sulphur and Sulfuric Acid 2007 took place in Moscow. It was attended by around 160 people – representatives of Ballestra-Moscow, British Sulphur Consultants, MECS Europe/Africa BVBA, Ammophos, Atomredmedzoloto JSC, BASF, Bijsk Oleum Plant, Voskresensk Mineral Fertilizers JSC, Gazprom Export, Gazpromtrans, Glynwed Russia, Eurochem, Concern Stirol, and other companies. Around 90% of all sulphur produced in the world is synthesised into sulfuric acid. SO2-containing off-gas from nonferrous metallurgy is another type of feedstock for sulfuric acid whose application is growing in importance. In 2006, 50 million tonnes of H2SO4 were made from off-gases. For the past decade, sulfuric acid throughput has risen by 10 million tonnes.
