Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride

It is common knowledge that polyvinyl chloride (PVC) has been one of the most widely used plastics since the very beginning of its commercial production in 1938. Chlorinated PVC (CPVC) was manufactured for the first time by Noveon (USA) in 1958 and has been considered one of the most successful PVC modifications.
CPVC is a comparatively new product and, consequently, a developing one. The growth of applications and consumption of CPVC stimulates the expansion of its production facilities. The world capacity for CPVC amounted to 50,000 tpy in 1990 and to 100,000 tpy in 2000. At present, this figure has increased to 120,000 tpy. The article analyses the production of PVC and CPVC in the CIS and in the world.
