Overview of the Russian Polyethylene Pipe Market

     Invented in the XV century, the possibilities of metal pipe lead to a revolution in engineering and communication systems. However, the demand for reliable, durable and economical pipes caused people to investigate alternative materials. At last, polymers started a new age of pipe manufacture in the XX century. Polyethylene has the lowest limiting temperature of executive works (down to -200°C). This advantage is especially important for pipe laying and use during Russian frosts. This article is devoted to polyethylene and its influence on Russian PE pipe production. For the Russian polyethylene pipe market, the year 2006 became the antithesis of 2005: unlike 2005, which was a period of minimums, it turned out to be the time of maximums. Oil and ethylene prices reached a historical level, while polyethylene prices achieved at least a ten year maximum.
