A Brief Overview of the Russian Methionine Market

Methionine is a sulphur-containing aliphatic α-amino acid. It is one of the essential amino acids widely used as an animal feed supplement. The only manufacturer of amino acids in Russia is Volzhsky Orsynthese JSC. All in all, Russian methionine production for 2012 amounted to 28,040 tonnes. Sustainable growth of the Russian agricultural sector well stimulates methionine manufacturing, and the present article is an in-depth research into the domestic production of this amino acid.
