Production and market of ethylene in Russia and the CIS countries![]() Ethylene (C2H4) is a very important chemical. Globally, its output prevails over other organic substances. It is primarily used for producing polyethylene. Besides, ethylene is used for manufacturing vinyl chloride, ethylene oxide, ethylbenzene, ethylene dichloride, ethyl alcohol, acetic acid, vinyl acetate, etc. In Russia, ethylene is produced at 10 plants – Nizhnekamskneftekhim OJSC, Kazanorgsintez OJSC, Stavrolen Ltd, Tomskneftekhim Ltd, SIBUR-Kstovo Ltd, Gazprom Neftekhim Salavat OJSC, Angarsk Polymer Plant OJSC , Ufaorgsintez OJSC, SANORS Ltd and SIBUR-Khimprom CJSC. In total Russian output of ethylene is 3.13m tpy. Ukrainian ethylene production depends on Russia’s raw material. In the country, ethylene is produced only by Karpatnaftohim Ltd. In the year ago period, Karpatnaftohim made 133,200 tonnes of C2H4, which is by 28.1% YOY less (185,300 tonnes in 2011).
