Styrene Production & Market in Russia and CIS

Styrene is the simplest and by far the most important member of a series of aromatic monomers. Also known commercially as styrene monomer (SM), it is produced in large quantities for polymerisation. In Russia, there are five companies currently producing styrene. They apply an ethylbenzene hydrogenation process. Driven by polystyrene demand, styrene production in the country has been growing well after it bottomed out at 476,300 tonnes. It seems that new polystyrene projects, to be commissioned soon, promise bright outlooks for the styrene market.
