Thinking ahead: Novel Rubber Products Patented in Russia

Since the Soviet times, the Russian synthetic rubber industry has been considered a well-developed branch of the economy.

Now Sibur Holding JSC ranks sixth worldwide in terms of synthetic rubber capacity. But the list of the Russian producers of synthetic rubber and thermoplastic elastomers is not limited to the manufacturing plants of Sibur. There are also other big manufacturers of these products such as Tatartstan-based Nizhnekamskneftekhim JSC and Kazan Synthetic Rubber Plant JSC.

Obviously, that in order to be competitive, this industry requires innovative technology developments. It is to be noted that a network of R&D institutes, that have been existing since the Soviet era, as well as higher education establishments in the country relatively well satisfy this demand.

In the review published in 2(74) issue of ECM we briefly consider the Russian patents related to new synthetic rubber products (rubber mixtures, thermoplastic elastomers, latexes and sealing compositions) that have been issued during the last three months.
