Polyethylene Terephthalate Global Production and Market![]() The 2009 global aggregate polyethylene terephthalate output summed up 49.2m tonnes, of which PET fibre accounted for about two thirds, whereas PET for packages and films 34%. The dominant position in the structure of chemical and synthetic fibres manufacture belongs to polyester fibres. PET fibres are expected to account for 50% of the world fibres production in 2012. The 2010 PET packaging capacities made up 19.2m tonnes. In 2011 the global PET capacities are to increase by 2m tonnes, mainly in two regions – the Asia-Pacific and Middle East.
