Production and Market of Calcium Carbonate in Russia and Ukraine

Calcium carbonate, CaCO3 is a very important chemical substance used in manufacturing paper and food, plastics, paints, rubber, household chemicals and construction materials. Pulp and paper industry is a key segment of natural and precipitated CaCO3 consumption.

The overall Russian calcium carbonate capacity is estimated from 2.7 to 3m tonnes a year. The 2007–2009 synthetic calcium carbonate consumption in Russia accounted approximately for 800,000 tonnes. The capacity of the Ukrainian market for synthetic calcium carbonate in the last four years varied from 1,500 to 2,500 tonnes.
