Struggling for Supremacy at PET Market

In the hotel Baltschug Kempinsky (Moscow) Creon CJSC held the 7th International Conference “PET–2011.” The conference was attended by a great number of participants from Russia and foreign countries who discussed the problems and prospects of the world and Russian market for PET.

From estimates, in 2011 out of the global overall polyester consumption, the use of polyester fibres will make up 65.1% (or 33.1m tonnes), bottles and food package 31.2% (or 15.9m tonnes), and films 3.7% (or 1.9m tonnes). The 2010–2014 annual growth rate of PET consumption in the sphere of packaging and fibres will amount to 5% each. The demand in the packaging market will be growing in Europe, Russia, North and South America, Middle East and especially in China, whereas the demand for polyester fibres will increase only in China and either remain the same or shrink in Europe and North America.
