Caprolactam is a cyclic amid of hexoic acid, used mainly in the manufacture of large-tonnage polymer – polyamide-6.

In 2009 the global demand for caprolactam was estimated at 3.65m tonnes with world’s capacities utilized at 69%. In the CIS, there are five operating caprolactam plants with a total capacity of 516,000 tpy. Last year, the overall 6-hexanelactam output in the CIS made up 453,700 tonnes. In Russia caprolactam is produced by KuibyshevAzot JSC, Kurskkhimvolokno Ltd, Khimvolokno JSC and others. In Ukraine the manufacturers of caprolactam are Azot JSC (Cherkassy) and Chernigov khimvolokno JSC. The Belarusian producers and consumers of caprolactam include Grodno Azot JSC and Grodno Khimvolokno JSC.

The global market for caprolactam is enough saturated, however the demand varies along with the changes in the world economics. In perspective, several CIS companies displayed their desires to increase the production of caprolactam.
