Review of Calcium Carbonate Production in CIS

Calcium carbonate CaCO3 occurs naturally as one of polymorphous modifications – calcite mineral. It is a common substance found in rocks (chalk, limestone and marble). In recent years, the total worldwide natural CaCO3 production capacity has been growing by 9% and today it is estimated at 80m tonnes. The world market of chemically obtained CaCO3 (precipitated calcium carbonate) in 2007 made up 13m tonnes.
There are three CIS countries which have rich chalk deposits: Russia, Ukraine and Belarus. The total CaCO3 production capacity in Russia is at the level of 2.95m tonnes.
