A Bio-Ethanol Fuel Program for ArmeniaAs a landlocked country with no significant natural gas or oil resources, Armenia has often had a hard time meeting its fuel and energy needs. A possible reason for hope is the rich agricultural potential of Armenia, whose crops may be used to produce ethanol as a fuel additive. This avenue of possibility was investigated by Armenia’s Renewable Resources and Energy Efficiency (R2E2) Fund. The main kinds of feedstock that were proposed include the Jerusalem artichoke and feed corn, typically used to feed livestock and poultry. However, time will tell if Armenia does go the bio-fuels route or simply bypasses the issue altogether relying solely on new oil pipelines from its neighbors.
