Polymers play a vital role in the development of the economy, finding applications in most industries. For the last seven years, the Russian market of plastic goods has been exhibiting a steady growth. Due to the extensive investment requirement of the polymer projects in Russia and the present economic turbulence, start-ups may stumble due to financial obstacles. Russian companies are also concerned about the possibility of foreign competitors entering the market. For example, there’s a possibility that the stagnation of the Asian polymer market will cause a new flow of imports into Russia, hurting the domestic plastic producers’ competitiveness.
Measures to improve the situation should include the commissioning of large-capacity units to supply 450,000 -600,000 tonnes of polymers a year.
