Trends in the CIS Monoethylene Glycol Market

Over the past few years, the world market for monoethylene glycol has been perceived by producers as a promising springboard for the launch of new production facilities. At the same time, CIS-located companies are slow in building new plants. They prefer to expand the existing production capacities instead.
The 2007 world MEG production is assessed at about 18m tonnes, with the CIS countries accounting for around 0.5m tonnes. At present, the world MEG production capacities are approaching 22m tonnes. And the CIS is responsible for approximately 3% of the given amount. Globally, the capacity utilisation rate is rather high – over the past decade it has been exceeding 80% on average. As for the CIS, this index ranges from 60% to 90% depending on the feedstock supply and market environment.
