An Outlook for the Russian Polyurethane Market

Today polyurethanes (PU) are a large group of resins, widely varying in their chemical natures, molecular chains, properties, and their containing groups (-NHCOO-). PU has been developed to substitute for such an important material as natural rubber. As a result, some of the physical and mechanical properties of up-to-date PU are better than those of rubbers, resins, and even metals. However, their common drawback is that they are difficult to process.Presently, there are roughly 40 large PU producing companies in Russia. Yet their development is restrained due to dependence on imported feedstock, especially isocyanates. Therefore, the PU market is not expected to grow fast until the domestic companies expand their own feedstock base.
