The CIS Butadiene Market

     In the CIS, only Azerbaijan and Russia manufacture butadiene, Russia being the largest producer and consumer of the chemical. The Russian output of butadiene for 2007 was 504,100 tonnes. For the period 1999-2007, the country’s output almost doubled while butadiene plants run at 100% capacity. However, despite the growth, large imports of butadiene attest to a lack of the chemical in the domestic market.
